1. 12 MONTHS TO SIMPLICITY - PUT IT ALL TOGETHER

This is a perfect time to recap what has been
covered this year. A point from each month is listed below
so you can see how well you kept on track.

January GOALS
Set your goals by writing them down. Take 2 hours
by yourself or with your family and list some 1, 3, 5, 10, and 20
year goals. What do you want? Think big.
_____

February PHOTOS
As you all go through them, I suggest that you sort through
and categorize them into areas that make sense to you (time,
event, occasion, people, places, size, etc.).
_____

March PAPER
Always open your mail over a wastebasket. This can
quickly help to eliminate the junk mail.
_____

April PAPER Part 2
There are only 4 things you can do with a piece of paper as
you sort through it all as you use the EASY System. You can:

E liminate it
A ct on it
S end it away
Y ou file it
_____

May EMAILS
Try to avoid printing emails. Instead, create folders
in your email program where you can drag the emails
that you need to save. This is like a file cabinet
for emails.
_____

June INTERRUPTIONS
Other's emergencies very often are NOT emergencies at all.
You need to ask the emergency provider what "NOW" means.
Many times when someone says that they need this done NOW,
they really mean they want it off of their desk NOW, but
it doesn't need done right away.
_____

July MEETINGS
If the meeting is to start at 10 am, start at 10 am exactly.
No matter who is there, the door is shut and the meeting
is started. As the facilitator, be sure to arrive early.
_____

August GARAGE
When you come across something that is trash, throw
it away! Make sure that you have as many trash bags
as you can get your hands on. You may even consider
renting a dumpster for the project.
_____

September CLOSETS
It's time to be brutally honest with yourself.
Do you really need all of the clothing that you
have? Can someone else benefit from clothes that
have shrunk since you last put them in the closet?
_____

October DON'T TOUCH
If you touch-and-keep, this can make getting organized
and decluttered nearly impossible. So how do you overcome
that? You may not be able to do it alone. I would suggest
that you work with a clutter buddy or hire a professional organizer.
_____

November KITCHENS
I suggest that you take a day to go through each cabinet one
by one. Take all of the contents out of one cabinet (don't do
more than one at a time, it will be overwhelming) and pitch or
donate those items that you haven't used in a long time
_____

SO HOW DID YOU DO?

2. SUBSCRIBER TIPS

TIDY TRASH TIPS

Store a handful of garbage bags in the bottom of your
garbage cans, whether they're tall kitchen bags, plastic
grocery bags for those small cans in the bathroom.
It's great when you empty the garbage can to just reach
down in the bottom of the can and grab a new one to
"re-load" (which happens often at our house for both the
regular and the recyclables!).

3. IN CLOSING -- HOLIDAY HOOPLA

I am sitting here watching the news this morning and I am
seeing people being sent to the hospital because they were
trampled on the way into a Wal-Mart at 6 a.m. for the early
bird specials. Is this what the holidays are all about?

Seriously, a hospital stay over a $29.99 DVD player? Sure,
it was a gift intended for her mom for Christmas, but I bet her
mom would rather have a whole daughter!

The news, commercials, radio ads, newspapers...they hold
common sense hostage for many. Don't let this be you. Hey,
I am all about saving money and getting a good deal (my motto -
Never pay full price!), but there is a limit. There will be good
deals all season long and especially AFTER the holidays.

During this holiday season, take a moment to see the hoopla
for what it is. Don't get swept away. The end of the world will not
be upon you if you miss out on a DVD player.

Remember, your presence means more than presents!

Here's to simplifying your holidays!

Until 2004,

Patty
