1. WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THOSE OLD PAPERS?
I do many seminars for companies and associations
and one of the questions that almost always comes
up
is, "What do I do with all of those old pay
stubs,
utility bills, cancelled checks, bank statements,
etc.?"
My answer comes in the form of a few questions.
1. Do these papers HAVE to be kept for legal or
tax purposes?
If so, contact your accountant and/or lawyer to
see
what your legal retention schedule is for each document.
If not, why are you keeping them? Try to use logic
when
you answer this question. If you keep them because
your
parents did, that does not make it right.
2. When is the last time that you looked at these
papers?
If the answer is never, then why are you keeping
them?
Unless you are writing memoirs or opening a museum,
this stuff is just going to plague those that you
leave
behind.
3. Can you retrieve this information from the sender?
Call your bank, utility companies, etc. to see if
you
ever needed a copy of a check or statement that
they
would be able to provide it for you. If they can,
let
them keep your records!
If you DON'T need these papers for legal or tax
purposes
but you still feel like you need to keep some records,
I
suggest one year is plenty. As you put the current
month in, pull the oldest month out and destroy
it.

2. EXCUSE, OBSTACLE, OR REASON?
Excerpted from "...But I Might Need It Someday!"
by Patty Kreamer to be released soon!
EXCUSE: YOU'VE ALWAYS DONE IT THAT WAY.
This is an old cop-out and it certainly suggests
a
lack of desire to change. Just because you've
always done it that way doesn't mean it is the best
way of doing it. Consider that there may be a better
way of doing something, and give yourself the
freedom to explore.
BELIEF TUNE-UP
"My way or the highway" is a pretty narrow-minded
notion. If, instead, you are receptive to new ideas
and you give them a chance, you may find that there
is a better way. Change is not always easy, but
in
many cases, it can improve efficiency and quality
of
life. Looking for a better way and being open to
suggestions can invite new ideas and opportunities.
Review some of your practices. If you do something
just because your parents or grandparents did (keep
every torn shirt, worn pair of pants, mismatched
sock,
pay stub, electric bill, newspaper, recipe, old
winter
coat, broken lamp, shopping bag, twisty tie, rubber
band,
glass jar, plastic container, purse, blanket, towel,
appliance), it doesn't mean that you have to keep
doing it forever.

A. If you haven't been there in a while, please
visit
the fresh new look at www.kreamerconnect.com.
B. I am told by my publisher that my book, "...But
I
Might Need It Someday!" should be for sale
by the
end of this month! I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I will keep you posted as to when and where it is
available. Many of you have indicated that you would
like to buy a copy...so you'll be the first to know!
C. Did you know that October 6-12 is Get Organized
Week?
Founded by the National Association of Professional
Organizers (NAPO), Get Organized Week celebrates
the
benefits of organization and showcases ways individuals
and businesses can reap those benefits.
The Pittsburgh Professional Organizers (PPO) has
put
together a week of seminars that are offered either
for
FREE or for a voluntary donation that will benefit
the
Parental Stress Center. You can also submit a photo
