1. DECLUTTER---STOP, LOOK, & LISTEN
Spring is such a great time to STOP what
you are doing for just a minute.
Take a LOOK around you. I mean really look
around you. There is clutter that you probably
no longer see. Now you know you have a problem
and it's time to clean up.
LISTEN to your mind and body and what the
clutter is doing to you. Clutter affects you
both physically and mentally.
SHOPPING 101
SHOPPING...a clutterer's worst enemy! To begin
the decluttering process, you must curb or
stop the inflow. If you decide to buy a new
item, you must decide then and there what item
you will be discarding, donating, selling,
or giving to a friend.
For example, say you are at the mall and
you see a pair of pants that you just MUST
have. Use the one-in/one-out rule by asking
the following questions:
1. Do I NEED or WANT these pants? (If you want
them, don't buy them. Just leave and go back
in a week. By then, you'll probably forget about them.)
2. If I NEED them, where will I put them? (Do you
have room?)
3. If I do buy them, what will I be getting rid of?
This one-in/one-out rule applies to ANYTHING that
you bring into your life, not just clothes.
It can work for committee positions, furniture,
toys (especially toys), books, volunteer positions,
unnecessary obligations, computer equipment,
people, extracurricular activities, or office
supplies; you name it.
When you finally get out from under the clutter,
you will probably wonder how you ever managed
with so much superfluous stuff. You will be
much more careful of who and what you take on
in your life.
STOP...LOOK...and LISTEN.
Is clutter taking over your life?

2. EXCUSE, OBSTACLE, OR REASON?
Excerpted from "...But I Might Need It Someday!"
by Patty Kreamer to be released late summer.
OBSTACLE:
YOU'VE NEVER ASSIGNED A HOME.
If you invited me to your house, could you find
me a spoon? The answer (I hope) is OF COURSE!
Whether you moved into your home 3 days or 3
decades ago, one of the first and automatic
things that you do is assign a drawer for
silverware. Sure your spoons go on vacations...
they go to the table, the dishwasher, the living
room, etc., but they always find their way back home.
This is not true of the items that you call clutter,
many of which you use every day. How often do you
have to search for stamps? Scissors? Tape? Labels?
Glasses? Keys? Wallet? Files? Important documents?
Need I go on?
BEHAVIOR ADJUSTMENT
Instead of throwing things and being happy with where
they land,
you need to take the time to assign a permanent home
for the aforementioned items and any other stray
objects that wander around aimlessly. It will only
take a couple of seconds to a minute to think it out
and
assign a permanent home. You will save so much
future time and energy looking for things and decrease
your stress level while you are at it!
You have the power and freedom to make decisions on
where things should go, why not exercise them?

3. IN CLOSING -- SIMPLY SIMPLE!
I'm going to make this simple. Before you do anything
in your life, be sure it is what you want. Learn to
say
NO!
Here's to simplifying your life!
Until June,
Patty
