1. DID YOU SLEEP LAST NIGHT?

One thing that I REFUSE to sacrifice
is my sleep. One of the most common
problems I run into with clients
is that they don't sleep enough.

If this sounds like you, it will help if
you first recognize if you are a morning,
afternoon, or late night person. Taking
that seriously into consideration will make
a big difference as you plan your day
AND night!

Ask yourself:

A. How many hours of sleep do I need?
If you need 7 or 8, going on 4 and 5 hours
is OK for 1 or 2 nights, but it builds up
and before you know it, your productivity
and disposition are compromised.

B. Do I go to bed too late and have to
hit the snooze button 14 times before I
get up in the morning?

C. Do I fall asleep at work (or wish I could)?

D. Am I always cranky? (Ask your co-workers!)

If you don't like the answers to these
question, it may be time to review your
habits. I know that not everybody has
the luxury of telling the boss that
they can't be at work at 8:00 a.m.
because they are not a morning person.
If you do have that flexibility, I
recommend using it. If not, make it a
point to go to bed earlier so waking up
is not such an event.

Without the proper sleep, your thought
process is not as clear as it can be.
Exercise and good diet can help you sleep
better as well.

Sounds easier than it is? Perhaps.
But just try it for a week and I
guarantee you will feel better and be
more productive! (And your co-workers
will be glad you did!)

2. THE "BUTT" RULE

As you organize your office, the "BUTT" rule
can help you to know where things should go
to maximize your productivity.

Excerpted from
"...But I Might Need It Someday!" by Patty
Kreamer (currently being written-look for it
in June!)

PATTY'S RULE # 4 - THE BUTT RULE

Things that you use daily (especially in
an office setting) should be within easy
reach (you shouldn't have to get off your BUTT).

Things that you use weekly or monthly
should be in the areas that are accessible
but you have to get up off your BUTT to get them
(across the office, out in the hall).

Things that you rarely use should go in the
most difficult places to reach (top shelf,
off-site storage, hard to reach places) that
require you to get off your BUTT and put it
on a ladder or in a car to get to them.

Knowing what you need near and far can make
a difference in the amount of time you save.
Take the time to think it through before you
put something away. Every minute counts!

4. IN CLOSING - SPRING IS IN THE AIR!

Although it has been a relatively mild
winter here in Pittsburgh, one of the things that
we tend to do over the winter may not have
been so mild...collect more stuff!

Spring is always a good time to clean out
the excess and start new. Start by scheduling
some time in the evenings and weekends to
declutter your life. That extra bedroom,
basement, garage, linen closet, you know the
place--take the time to clean it out and
you will feel rejuvenated!

Which would you rather have, the clutter
or serenity and peace? Your call.

Here's to simplifying your life!

Until April,

Patty
