1. THE COLD HARD FACTS
You may not think that being disorganized
is a big deal, but let me demonstrate in a
measurable way that it is.
Being disorganized means constantly having
to search for things. If you spend just
5 minutes of each hour of an 8-hour day
looking for things, that adds up to over
4 wasted weeks a year.
HERE'S HOW:
5 min./hour X 8 hours/day = 40 min./day
Based on 5 days/week = 200 min./week
Based on 50 wks/year = 10,000 min./year
Divide 10,000 by 60 min./hour = 166 hrs
Divide 166.66 by 8 hours/day = 20.83 days
Divide 20.83 divided by 5 days/week = 4.1666 weeks/year
Thus, if you are paying a disorganized
person $10/hour, disorganization is costing
you $10/hour X 166.66 hours OR $1660.60/year!
Now, if you are the disorganized person,
figure what your time is worth and multiply it
by 166 hours. Do you like what you see?
I didn't think so.
The worst part is (yes, it gets worse!) that
most people spend MORE than five minutes of
every hour trying to find misplaced items.
Most people waste an average of SIX weeks per
year! The calculations above use conservative
estimates, but they make the point. So the
next time you spend five minutes looking for
something, ask yourself if it's worth it to
get organized. I think you'll agree that it is.

2. EXCUSE, OBSTACLE, OR REASON?
Excerpted from "...But I Might Need It Someday!"
by Patty Kreamer to be released later this summer.
Excuse #7 YOU DON'T THINK ORGANIZING IS EXCITING
I won't take it personally if you think
that organizing is dull, but let me tell
you that it doesn't have to be! If you'd
rather put a sharp stick in your eye than
get organized, change the beliefs that you
have in your head. You will see your
behavior soon follow.
Belief Adjustment
With the simple processes and built in
rewards, you will find organizing both easy and fun.
If you know there is something waiting for
you at the end of an organizing session, it
can be very motivating. Using some creativity,
organizing can take on a whole new light.
Here's how: promise yourself that AFTER you
organize your closet for 2 hours (or whatever
amount of time you have), you can do something
that appeals to you-take a walk, read your
favorite novel, go golfing, take a bubble bath, get
an ice cream cone, refill your coffee cup.
Remember the reward is to FOLLOW the organizing,
not precede it.
Believing that you will get to the reward helps
you stick to your plan by keeping the end in mind.
You will be able to see progress that will
motivate you like never before. Believe me!

4. IN CLOSING -- INVEST WISELY!
I don't mean financially; I mean invest your time
wisely. Most people waste a great portion of their
day doing non-productive activities. If you think
this might include you, track your time for a
week (best if you go from a Wednesday to a Wednesday)
on a half hour basis. You will be amazed at how much
time you waste!
Take the newly found time and invest it in getting
your life organized--one hour at a time. This will
provide
you one of the best returns on your investment. You
will have time to relax and enjoy what matters most
in
your life.
Here's to simplifying your life!
Until July,
Patty
